Fall 2014 Update from Gamma Alumni Assc #1

All, a lot to convey in the following update.

Rush Retreat on 8/23

We would like to recognize Bill & Launy Peironnet and their family/friends for putting on an amazing Rush Retreat Event on 8/23. They went above and beyond the call of duty with the accommodations. We would also like to thank the following alumni who came out to support the approx. 38 undergrads that attended: Dave Halligan, Leo Cheng, Ryan Panos, Steve Pas, David Gray, Kurt Wilson, Charlie Schadowitz, Dave Scruggs, Adrian Fernandez, Freddy Fernandez, Christian Santiago, Mike Prater, Harris Kashtan, Jamie Worsnop, Robbie Sheridan and various family/friends. We had over 70 people attend the retreat. Hope some of you can make it next Fall.

Fall Rush Results

The Chapter is off to a good start for the fall semester. The Chapter has approx. 40 live-ins and for the first time since re-colonizing we don’t have any boarders. Building upon that positive news the Chapter had a very successful Fall rush. They had 16 men accept Associate Membership and start the pledge semester. I’d like to think it was all because of the rush retreat but they worked really hard as a group to pull it off.

Football Tailgate Sponsorships

As a reminder, every home football game we host a Chapter/Alumni Pre-Game Tailgate at the Chapter House starting a couple of hours before game time. Alumni Tailgate sponsorships are encouraged to offset the cost of the them. In exchange for the $100 donation the Chapter will hold a free parking space for you the day of the game. Thanks to all that have signed up so far. Here is the updated list of folks that have signed up and opportunities to host.

Chapter/Alumni Event to Benefit BORP – Adaptive Sports & Recreation on 10/18 UCLA vs Cal Game

Our Chapter’s philanthropy event for the semester will be Disability Awareness Day at the UCLA vs Cal game on 10/18. The Chapter will be working in conjunction with Cal Athletics and the Bay Area Outreach Program to sell tickets to the game, with a part of the ticket proceeds going to our Fraternity’s Philanthropy, The Ability Experience (formerly PUSH America). There will be a special recognition of elite Bay Area athletes during a break in the action. The tickets are being sold at $35/ea (face value is $55/ea) and will also include a free t-shirt. To purchase a ticket please send a check to:

Philanthropy Chairs
Attn. Football Game
2908 Channing Way
Berkeley, CA 94704

Please also send us an email to rsvp when you send your check so they can be on the lookout for it. Tickets will be held at the house and given to you when you arrive.

Note – Pre game tailgate will be catered to alumni/family. In addition, any alumni who purchases tix through the Chapter will be half off parking at the Chapter House. The football game will be the day after the Deftos/Chang/Schad Activity. We really hope that we can get a lot of alumni and family members supporting the event. It will be a great opportunity to raise awareness for people with disabilities, highlight our Chapter’s efforts on campus and to come together as a lifelong Brotherhood. Hope you’ll be able to join and support us.

Deftos/Chang/Schad Memorial Pledge Activity on Friday, 10/17 at 8 pm at Deftos Tree

As mentioned previously, the Chapter will be hosting the Deftos/Chang/Schad Memorial Pledge activity on Friday, 10/17 at 8 pm. Plan is to meet pre-event at Free House on Bancroft and College Avenue starting 6:30 pm. If you plan to join please email our Chapter Advisor Zach Brown.

Luis Mota Update

The following was passed along by Rob Robinson last month. “Our brother, Luis Mota, is battling cancer and is in the middle of aggressive radiation and chemo treatments. I know he could use and appreciate some support from his Gamma brothers. The best way to reach him is via text to his cell phone (available via our Member Directory). Sometimes it takes him a few days to respond. He usually has a 5-hour chemo session on Thursdays from which it takes the weekend to recover”

Thanks for taking the time to read this.
