Fall 2020 Update from Gamma Alumni Assc

Alumni – It’s been a long time since we’ve communicated.  Apologies that Covid and life have gotten in the way.  The following update was started before Covid:

Chapter Update – Spring

Chapter started off well with 34 live-ins.  They had a successful Spring rush.  They were able to recruit 13 pledges that started the semester.  By Covid, we had 12 pledges.  Due to Covid, we had to defer Spring initiation to a later date.  As of today, their official initiation is still pending.  Luckily, most undergrads went home after Spring Break.  We didn’t have any Covid incidents at the Chapter House.  We also had our first Journey of Hope candidate in 4+ years.  Aaron Barnabas, from Yorba Linda and new Archon had decided to fundraise and participate as a rider in the Journey of Hope.  He was well on his way to meeting his fundraising goal when the Journey of Hope was cancelled and changed to a virtual event.  He’s decided to defer his participation until Summer 2021.  We will send out more information about his Fundraising next Spring.

Chapter Update – Summer

Chapter was able to fill most rooms and exceeded it’s Summer revenue rent target by over $2K.  Corbett Churan was the Summer House Manager who made it happen.  We also didn’t have any Covid or other incidents this Summer.

Chapter Update – Fall

This Semester we had 42 expected live-ins that participated in room draw in April.  After classes went to-online only, we had another room draw.  We currently have 27 live-ins in the Chapter House.  We have implemented many safeguards around cleaning service, testing, hand sanitizer stations and rules on not hosting events.  So far we are incident free.  Our current Fall budget has us breaking even for the Semester.  Chapter also did 2 weeks of Virtual Rush.  Their goal was 9 pledges.  Their efforts enabled them to get 12 pledges (including 2 pledges that are Studying Abroad).  The Chapter was one of the most successful in the Greek System because they recognized students were still looking for opportunities to belong to a place that will enable them to thrive after Covid.  The Chapter did virtual tours, set up zoom calls between prospects and Brothers that had similar things in common and they hosted online rush activities (poker tournaments, etc.).  I hope you all are as proud as the Board is of the Chapter efforts during this unprecedented time.

Volunteer Opportunities

We currently are looking for alumni to participate in the following volunteer opportunities:

  • Alumni/Active Career Virtual Events – Due to Covid, we won’t be able to host our Fall Alumni/Active Career Mentoring event.  Ryan Panos is working with the Chapter to set up some virtual events in fields of interest for the Undergrads.  If you’d like to volunteer to participate in a virtual event please let me know via reply and what Field you’d like to represent.
  • Chapter Advisor – We are still searching for a Chapter Advisor for the Chapter.  If you are interested, please let me know via reply.
  • Alumni Board Member – We have a spot opening up next Spring for an alum to join our Board.  If you are interested, please let me know via reply.

Gammazette

Our Spring edition went out late this Spring via mail and was also posted on our Gamma website.  I’d like to thank Board Members (Casey Doherty, Clement Tam and Aaron Barnabas, Archon) for their efforts in putting it together.  If you didn’t receive and want to get a link or get on the future mailing list, please let me know.

As always, I appreciate you taking the time to read my Gamma Chapter updates and welcome your feedback.
