Spring 2017 Update from Gamma Alumni Assc

Gamma Alums,

Please enjoy the following update on the happenings with the Chapter:

Chapter Update

After initiating 21 out of 24 Fall ’16 pledges, the Chapter recruited 17 pledges for the Spring ’17 semester. A terrific job by the Chapter that should position them to have a full Chapter House next Fall. Three of the Fall JA’s have moved into the Chapter House and taken on positions. Our new Treasurer, Sam Melville is one of them.

Deftos/Chang/Schad Memorial Pledge Activity – Friday, 4/7

Every semester we have a pledge activity where we meet at the Deftos Memorial Tree in the evening. Alumni and Actives remember the contributions of these brothers and sudden loss that was experienced by their passing. Post activity we meet with the pledges and conduct interviews at the Chapter House. This year’s activity will be on Friday, 4/7. Plan is to meet at Free House (Bancroft/College) at 7 pm with departure to the Deftos Memorial Tree at 8 pm. If you are interested in attending please email us.

Alumni/Active Career Night – Sun 4/23

Gamma’s annual career night is Sunday, April 23 at the house. Alumni of every career type are encouraged to join. A quick panel discussion followed by casual conversations about different fields is our routine. Zachary’s pizza will be provided. This and other career advising efforts have benefited many actives and young alumni over the past 4+ yrs and we appreciate everyone’s efforts. To RSVP or to answer any questions please contact us.

John “Tundra” Futscher (Fall ’83), Mudslide Incident – Go Fund Me Campaign

Many of you may have heard but on Tue, 2/7 the Futscher family lost their family home to a mudslide shortly after 8 am. Luckily the family was able to get out safely, but with only the clothes on their backs. They had nothing. No phones, keys, wallets, computers and personal belongings. The house which has been in the family for 2 generations is literally a pile of rubble. Their car is partially buried as well. Insurance will cover surprisingly little of the loss, as “earth movement” is a standard exclusion in CA Homeowner policies. The estimated costs they will be incur are astronomical. A Go Fund Me campaign has been set up to hopefully raise $250K. Currently the campaign sits at $110,516. I hope you will consider helping a Brother in need.

Active Brother Internship Help

As many of you can attest to, one of the many benefits of Brotherhood is getting career assistance from Alumni. We hope that you will consider paying this forward by helping the undergrads that are looking for 2017 Summer Internship Assistance on. Here are two of their stories:

Pouriya Bagheri: I am working towards a B.S. in Industrial engineering and Operations Research; and have the goal of becoming a successful Engineer. I will graduate this December and I am looking to find an internship in supply chain, product management, or operation research.

True Loan: I am pursuing a technical internship related to my field of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science for the Summer of 2017. While my major is a joint program with heavy emphasis in computer science as result of prerequisites, I have a strong inclination towards Electrical Engineering.

Please Contact Us if you believe you have any way to help these two, or any other current actives with an internship or full-time employment position.

Thanks for taking the time to read through this update.
